The ultimate celebration of chili, beer, and the great state of Connecticut is coming to SoNo Marketplace in South Norwalk on April 14, 2013, from 1-4 PM.
Each ticket to the Connecticut Chili Classic gives you access to an outdoor concourse of chili, served by dozens of Connecticut's best amateur chefs all competing for the coveted Connecticut Chili Cup title. Live music will be provided by Tangled Vine, winner of "Best Local Rock Band" in Best of the Gold Coast, and a 6-foot bonfire will be sure to keep everyone toasty.
In addition to the People's Choice award, at 2:00 PM an exclusive panel of professional chefs featuring two-time James Beard Foundation Award Winner Michel Nischan and local celebrity chefs Bill Taibe (The Whelk, Le Farm) and Brian Lewis (Elm Restaurant) will vote on the 2013 Connecticut Chili Classic champion. The 1st place team takes home the Connecticut Chili Cup, sponsorship to the International Chili Society's New England Regional Chili Cookoff, a butane stove and a $50 gift certificate to Craft Butchery.
10% of ticket proceeds will be donated to Wholesome Wave, a Bridgeport-based charity that empowers people in historically underserved urban and rural communities to make healthier food choices by increasing access to, and affordability of, fresh, locally grown food. Wholesome Wave's highly successful programs address issues of food insecurity, farm viability, economic vitality of local communities, and diet-related diseases, especially among children. Their essential goal is to improve health status in underserved and underinvested communities while increasing the economic viability of local farmers and stimulating local economic activity around healthy food systems.
The First Annual Connecticut Chili Classic is presented by Craft Butchery and SoNo Marketplace.
